CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sen. Cory Booker (N.J., DN) on Sunday about Democrats’ efforts to label Harris’ candidacy a “new chapter” despite the fact that she is the sitting vice president.

“Democrats have controlled the White House for 12 of the last 16 years. How can Democrats talk about a new chapter, turning the page? You guys are the ones writing the book,” Tapper said in an interview with Booker.

CNN reported that Harris said in her speech at the Democratic National Convention that Americans have a chance to “forge a new path forward.” Harris’ running mate, Governor Tim Walz, also said, “We’re ready to put an end to these people,” referring to the Republican Party, and former President Barack Obama also said in his speech at the Democratic National Convention that the United States is ready for a “new chapter” and a “better story.”

“Jake, you know that’s not true because you know politics as well as I do. Right now, MAGA Republicans in Congress are killing any kind of actual policy that needs to be done on our most contentious issues,” Booker responded, referring to a border bill killed by Republican lawmakers.

“It would be a mistake to say that MAGA Republicans have not undermined common sense, pragmatic and sensible politics. I believe this election will finally eradicate those tendencies in the Republican Party and help restore the pragmatic Republican Party,” Booker continued.

Booker said he has no patience for “tribalism” and praised Republicans who spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

“This is really a choice: Do we continue Donald Trump’s politics of smear and fear, of contempt and humiliation, or do we turn a new page and show America we can come together again, negotiate in the middle and compromise to accomplish great things as a nation?” Booker said.

CNN’s Scott Jennings argued Tuesday that while Harris is calling for reform, she is also working to fix the current problems in the White House.

“There’s a lot of talk about division and problems in the country and people suffering, but the Democrats have pretty much taken control of this country… and somehow, everything is still [former President] “This is Trump’s fault, and somehow she wasn’t at the center of it,” Jennings said.

“To me, that’s a glaring flaw in this campaign that hasn’t been addressed at this convention. How do you account for all the problems that are going to be solved by the guy who’s there now for the last three and a half years that should already be working to solve them?” he added.
