An Alabama high school football quarterback died Saturday after suffering a brain injury on the field Friday, authorities said.
Caden Tellier, a junior quarterback at Morgan Academy. Suffered According to Fox News, the player was injured after being tackled during the third quarter of the team’s home opener.
The 16-year-old student was transported by helicopter from the game site to University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he died from his injuries Saturday evening.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Kaden Tellier has gone to be with his Lord and Savior. Kaden loved the Lord with his whole heart and was a bright light every day he stood in the halls of Morgan Academy. He was a student, a friend, an athlete and above all a follower of Christ,” the school’s principal, Brian Oliver, told media.
“Words cannot express our feelings as a school community and family and we stand united in our heartfelt support for Jamie, Arcela and Lyla,” Oliver added. “Our heartfelt condolences also go out to the extended Tellier family and we would like to thank all the schools and individuals who have reached out during this difficult time. We will never forget who Kayden was and what he meant to Morgan Academy.”
Alabama Private Schools Association Executive Director Michael McClendon also released a statement saying schools have canceled all sports activities for the remainder of the week.

“As a small school, Morgan Academy has felt this tragedy especially deeply, and the Alabama Association of Independent Schools will provide all support and resources to assist them in their grief,” McClendon wrote.
The youngster played baseball and football for the school. As a starter on the varsity team, he threw for 1,228 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games as a sophomore last year. In baseball, he batted .311 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
