A shocking video shows a Brooklyn woman being followed to her apartment building near Prospect Park and choked from behind by a creepy man.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman, had entered her building in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 11pm on Thursday when a man crept up behind her and put his arms around her neck, police said.
The woman began to resist, screaming “Stop!” and “Help me!”, so the unidentified assailant told her to “shut up” and let her go.
Video of the terrifying encounter Obtained by ABC 7 The suspect is seen pressing the elevator button before taking aim at the victim as the woman walks through the lobby to her mailbox.
The man, apparently unaware of the security camera, quickly approached the woman and put his arms around her neck.
The video shows the woman kicking the man and the two struggling for several seconds before the man lets go of her.
After the man released her, the woman called 911. She was not physically injured in the attack.
Police are currently searching for the assailant, described as a dark-skinned man who fled the scene on foot.
As authorities continue to search for the perpetrator, the attack has alarmed people living near the building, located near the intersection of Ocean and Parkside avenues in Brooklyn.
“I can't believe it because in the pictures I saw he was literally five feet behind her,” an anonymous neighbor told ABC7.
“It makes you think again about how you move around the neighborhood and how you move around in general,” the neighbor added.
Another neighbor, Carlos Vasquez, told the station he bought a doorbell camera after a similar incident happened to him.
“A lot of strange things happen in this building. I've been followed myself before,” he said.
