Carrie Underwood is returning to “American Idol” for the first time in 20 years.
The “Before He Cheats” singer was recently selected to replace Katy Perry on the judging panel for the popular competition show's 25th season.
Currently appearing SiriusXM's Music Row Happy Hour Inside Resorts World Las Vegas, Underwood detailed the three ways she plans to fairly judge contestants.

“I think I can be honest and constructive and still be kind,” she told Buzz Brainard. “I think people come here because they have a dream, and that's what it's all about.”
Underwood added, “From that moment on, you become a part of someone's story. I think it's important to be honest, but I also think it's really important to be kind. Hopefully, I can tie all of that together.”

The “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer took home the top prize when she won “American Idol” in 2005. Underwood reflected on the two decades since she tried out for the show, which has made her one of the biggest country music stars of all time.

“I auditioned in August and it's been 20 years and here I am,” she told Brainard about returning to her competition show roots.
“From that moment on, you're part of someone's story. I think it's important to be honest, but I also think it's really important to be kind. Hopefully, I can tie it all together.”
The radio host also noted that having two country artists on the judging panel is “a win of sorts,” as Underwood will be sitting on the panel alongside Luke Bryan.

“That's true. I feel very fortunate to have such deep roots in country music, but I've also been able to take part in so many other genres of music,” Underwood said.

“I'm currently writing songs with Papa Roach, which is really fun. I think I'm well-rounded and hopefully when I listen to the people who come in to audition, I can get a perspective on what kind of music I have in mind.”
Auditions for the new season began on August 12th.

Underwood recently announced an extension of her “Reflection” Las Vegas run at Resorts World, adding several more dates through spring 2025.
She began her residency in December 2021 and has extended the series multiple times due to popular demand.
