To Avoid Woke Hollywood Curse, Coppola Hired ‘Canceled’ Actors for ‘Megalopolis’

Film legend Francis Ford Coppola has spoken out about his upcoming Megalopolis Whenever he was labeled woke, he would hire actors who had been “canceled.”

in Interview Disgraceful far-left Rolling StoneThe 85-year-old multiple Academy Award winner said:

What I didn't want was for us to be seen as some woke Hollywood production that was just preaching to the audience. The cast features people who've been canceled at some point. Some are far-right, some are extremely politically progressive. But we were all working together on one film. I thought that was interesting.

He's referring, of course, to Oscar winner Jon Voight, Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman and Oscar nominee Shia LaBeouf.

Voight has been blacklisted for his support of Trump.

Hoffman is blacklisted for unsubstantiated allegations of misconduct that occurred nearly 40 years ago.

LeBoeuf has been blacklisted over unfounded allegations of abuse and for becoming a Christian.

Coppola said of LeBoeuf:

You can see the actors discovering their characters. [LaBeouf] He really liked it. I'd never worked with him before, but he purposefully creates extreme tension between himself and the director. He reminds me of Dennis Hopper, who does the same thing, but he says, “Just do whatever you want,” and they do something amazing right away.

LeBeouf is an actor I've mercilessly mocked for years, but he's developed into a genuine talent, and I don't doubt Coppola's description of the tension and edge he brings to the role.

Let's go back to the most important thing Coppola said: “What I didn't want was for it to be seen as some woke Hollywood production where we were just preaching to the audience,” he explained. “We had people in the cast who were canceled at one point. We had people who were extreme conservatives, we had people who were very politically progressive.”

He continued, “But we were all working on one movie together, and I thought that was interesting.”

Coppola is not right-wing, but he is 1) an old-fashioned, tolerant liberal, 2) an artist from head to toe, and, most importantly, 3) a guy who's spent $100 million of his own money.

You see, unlike these multinational entertainment corporations and billionaire affirmative action entrepreneurs like Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, Coppola has to worry about the bottom line and making profits. And as a wise man who has worked in the film industry for almost 60 years, he knows that wokeness translates to declining box office revenues. So he's wisely and proactively telling moviegoers that he's not ruining his dream project with woke preaching.

I can't wait Megalopolis.
