Backlash against Grok leads lawmakers to call for crackdown on AI deepfakes
A group of Democratic lawmakers is calling on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to step up regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) deepfakes following the release of social platform X's chatbot Grok. In a letter to the FEC on Monday, Rep. Shawntel Brown (D-Ohio) and several other House members asked for clarification on whether AI-generated deepfakes of political candidates qualify as “fraudulent.”
