Jim Jordan subpoenas company of Trump judge's daughter

The House Judiciary Committee has issued subpoenas to a company that employs the daughter of New York Judge Juan Marchand, who is overseeing former President Trump's hush money trial.

The subpoena escalated an escalating fight between the committee's Weaponization and Authentic Campaigns subcommittees after the committee rejected lawmakers' requests for the company to turn over any communications it had with Marchan, noting no such communications existed.

The letter from Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asks CEO Mike Nellis to attend a deposition with the company and sign an affidavit saying the company has had no contact with Marchan.

Nellis previously He mocked Jordan. The company said it was unreasonable to suggest that the company had any dealings with employees' parents, and noted that it did not provide services to either the Biden or Harris campaigns and that its political activities had no bearing on the outcome of Trump's hush money trial.

Still, Jordan on Wednesday sought an affidavit from the company saying it had reviewed all communications records relevant to Trump's prosecution.

“If, as you assert, Authentic Campaigns does not in fact have records responsive to the Commission's other requests made on August 1, the Commission will require sworn certification under penalty of perjury that Authentic Campaigns reasonably and diligently searched in good faith for responsive documents but was unable to locate them,” Jordan wrote.

Nellis shared a copy of the subpoena online on Wednesday and called Jordan's subpoena an intimidation tactic.

“This is another abuse of power aimed at spreading a baseless, right-wing conspiracy theory linking our company, Authentic, to Donald Trump's fraud trial,” Nellis said. I wrote to X.

“Let's be clear: these allegations against our company are completely false and purely politically motivated. This is a blatant attempt to intimidate our company and distract attention from the conviction of Donald Trump. We reject the intimidation and will not allow House Republicans and MAGA extremists to spread lies about our work.”

Marchan's daughter, Lauren, has frequently drawn the ire of President Trump for her work on the campaign trail of leading Democratic candidates, including Vice President Harris and President Biden. Her work has been repeatedly featured in Trump's campaign to keep her father out of New York lawsuits.

Judge Marchan has rejected Trump's request to resign three times, most recently earlier this month after the former president's legal team suggested Lauren Marchan's work for Harris was new reason for him to step down. The judge maintained that there was no conflict of interest in her daughter's work and said she had consulted with the state's Judicial Ethics Advisory Commission.

“Simply put, defendants' allegations are merely a litany of stale and unsubstantiated allegations,” Marchan said. It was stated in the judgment:.

The former president is barred from commenting publicly about Marchan's family or the prosecutors in the New York case, but he has still criticized the judge and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.

Jordan is conducting numerous investigations into people who have prosecuted Trump or have ties to him, as well as opening investigations into Bragg and Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney (D), who filed election interference-related lawsuits against Trump in Georgia.

Trump was convicted in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with then-presidential operative Michael Cohen's alleged payments to porn actresses to silence them about an affair he and Trump had with Trump before the 2016 election, which Cohen denies.

If Judge Marchan determines the trial can proceed following the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity, the former president is scheduled to be sentenced on September 18th.
