Police motorcycle escorting Vice President Harris’s motorcade in Georgia crashes

A police motorcycle escorting Vice President Harris' motorcade crashed shortly after leaving a restaurant in Savannah, Georgia on Wednesday.

A reporter for the Christian Science Monitor who was part of the vice presidential candidate's press corps wrote in an email that the motorcade slowed down and circled around the police motorcycle that had been hit.

One person was on the ground and blood was visible.

“At least one other person was assisting someone on the ground,” the reporter wrote. “Two motorbikes were parked, one on the ground. One of the motorbikes appeared to have lost control rather than having hit something.”

Fox News received a Pool report that “at 7:17pm ET, our van passed what appeared to be a wounded police officer or National Guardsman on a motorcycle.” [,] Another police officer or National Guard officer was on the ground treating victims.”

According to reporters from the reporting team, the motorcade stopped on the highway at 7:20 pm and then started moving again at 7:23 pm, overtaking a white bus that had been part of the motorcade but had then parked on the side of the road.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House and Harris' campaign for additional information, including the status of the officers involved.

The popular Republican governor has said his state is a must-win for Trump.

Shortly before the incident, Governor Harris and her lieutenant governor, Wisconsin Governor Tim Walz, stopped by Sand Fly BBQ in Savannah, Georgia, to greet the restaurant's owners, employees and several local residents.

Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz on Wednesday began a two-day bus tour through key battleground states in the Southeast.

The vice president's message is that Georgia will once again be a hot topic in the November election.

Georgia has long been a reliably Republican state in elections for the White House, and Joe Biden narrowly defeated then-President Trump in 2020, becoming the first Democrat to win Georgia in nearly three decades.
