A backseat couple was “getting busy” in their car in the middle of the night, which nearly ended in tragedy when their SUV plunged into the Philadelphia River.
Police say the lovers were having sex in a 2020 Range Rover near the Schuylkill River in Fairmont Park around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday when one of his limbs was struck by the SUV's gear stick. He told NBC10.
Minutes later, the Range Rover went off a cliff and ended up in the water about two miles from Philadelphia City Hall.
Police told the outlet that the unidentified couple jumped from the SUV before the vehicle hit the water and sank below sea level.
Neither was injured during the incident.
Police told NBC10 the couple may have been “busy” when the freak accident happened.
The Range Rover was pulled from the river at around 9am, the media reported.
Images of the SUV showed it completely submerged in the river near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge.
Police officials said no charges have been filed against the erogenous couple.
The incident comes just weeks after another car plunged into the Schuylkill River. Fox 29.
A witness who was fishing at the time of the accident told the media that he saw a four-door sedan traveling on a road near the river suddenly brake and back into the river.
Strangely, when rescuers rushed to the scene, there was no one inside the sedan, even though all four doors were locked.
Philadelphia police are still investigating the Aug. 16 incident.
