Four historic houses moved through Connecticut city

They really are moving.

Shocking footage showed four 19th century homes being ripped from their foundations and paraded through the streets of a Connecticut town on Thursday.

A large crowd of local residents gathered to watch as the historic home that has stood there for more than 125 years was moved to a vacant lot in Hartford.

Street parking was disrupted and some areas lost power for the day while hydraulic jacks were used to lift the three-storey home and transport it around town. WTNH reported.

One house had to be split into two in order to be transported across Lincoln Street to the Frog Hollow neighborhood. According to WFSB.

The vacant properties were purchased by LAZ Parking as part of a $60 million project to build a nine-story parking garage with 900 parking spaces at Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

The move began about 9 a.m. and also included the removal of family-owned J Restaurant & Bar, which had occupied one of the 19th-century buildings for 54 years and sold to LAZ Parking in January for $3.75 million.

“It's kind of weird… today is our last day doing any kind of cooking. No cooking in the restaurant,” restaurant owner Jordan Dikegoros told WTNH.

Dikegoros is in negotiations with project planners over plans to build a new version of the restaurant on the ground floor of the car park, pending financing. Hartford Business,

Construction on the parking centre is expected to begin next month, according to reports.
