On Friday's episode of HBO's “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), a 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate, tried to defend himself from criticism of his inaccurate claim that he would carry a weapon in time of war by claiming he speaks like a civilian, calling it nonsense and that Walz is “a big liar, like all politicians.” But what matters is what politicians lie about, and he said he doesn't mind that Walz lied about his military record, but that Waltz's defense is “just an insult to my intelligence.”
Maher said:[W]Tim Walz said, “American people, I speak like them. No, you don't. You're a goddamn liar, as are all politicians. And by the way, I don't care. I've always said this about politics: They're all going to lie, they're [politicians]”That's why they're lying. I don't care what you did during the Iraq War. You were in the National Guard. So I don't understand why they can't. You're just insulting my intelligence.”
