Authorities confirmed that a small plane carrying two people crashed Saturday morning into a row of townhouses in the residential area of Fairview, a short distance from Portland International Airport and Troutdale Airport in Oregon.
The Associated Press, citing local news outlets, reported that one person was killed, a resident of a townhouse whose family was killed when the plane crashed into them. KATU TVIt was reported.
Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis told reporters that one resident of the townhouse where the plane struck has reported being missing. Residents living in adjacent townhouses have been evacuated.
“The plane struck a utility pole and it appears that the impact caused some pieces of the plane to fall off. As I said, there are two crash sites, so to speak, and there is debris all around,” said John Prock, spokesman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Videos shared on social media showed the fire and large columns of smoke visible high above the treeline in Fairview.
The twin-engine Cessna 421C plane crashed about 10:30 a.m., according to the FAA.
The Gresham Fire Department said on Facebook that it responded with assistance from other agencies, including the Port of Portland, Portland Fire Rescue and Clackamas Fire Department.
The plane landed even closer to the smaller Troutdale Airport, which describes itself as a “flight training and recreational airport.”

Officials have not confirmed whether there were any injuries or fatalities.
