Kaine pushes back on Harris interview criticism: 'You can't get into everything in a short interview'

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) pushed back against criticism of Vice President Harris' CNN interview last week, suggesting it was difficult to tell the whole story in such a short interview.

Fox News' Shannon Bream asked Cain on “Fox News Sunday” about criticism from New York Times columnist Bret Stephens. Harris Ms. Harris's comments in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash last week were “vacuum-wide vague.” Bream asked Mr. Kaine if Ms. Harris's plan for the campaign was to “go by the ball,” but Ms. Harris did not say whether her policy positions had changed during the interview.

“I think it's the atmosphere and the accomplishment. I remember my first interview with Hillary Clinton,” Kaine said. “It was probably right after the convention or the day before, and it was a similar story. You can't tell the whole story in a short interview. It was on 60 Minutes.”

In her opinion piece, Stevens wrote that Harris “struggled to be honest about her changing positions on fracking and border security.” Harris has faced backlash over her stance on fracking, with many accusing her of constantly changing positions.

During her 2019 Democratic presidential primary run, Harris said she wanted to ban fracking. But she told CNN: In an interview on Thursday, she said she no longer wanted to do that. Kaine noted Sunday that the Biden-Harris administration has invested in alternative energy sources while also using natural gas to support U.S. allies.

“But take, for example, fracking. She took a position on it in the 2019 presidential debate, and now she's part of an administration that's seeing a surge in investment in alternative energy thanks to the Inflation Control Act, and she's also using natural gas production to help allies that are trying to wean themselves off their reliance on Russia,” he said.

“The United States is the largest exporter, [liquified natural gas] “Under the Biden-Harris administration, the world is booming with oil extraction, and one of the reasons for that is fracking, and we're helping our allies, especially in Europe, to not have to rely on Russia,” he added.
