Billionaire Elon Musk has slammed a New York Times reporter for an article claiming that the US Constitution is one of the “greatest threats” to the nation.
Times book critic Jennifer Szalay argued that the fact that former President Trump was able to become president through the Electoral College puts “the Constitution of the United States in jeopardy.”
“Americans have long trusted the Constitution to save them, but now there are growing doubts about whether we need to be saved by the Constitution,” Szarai said. “The document that is supposed to be a bulwark against authoritarianism risks fostering a broader skepticism that fosters authoritarianism.”
She also attacked fundamentalist interpretations of the Constitution, calling them “Constitution worship.”

“Trump's political rise has benefited from a Constitution that is inherently anti-democratic and, in our era, increasingly dysfunctional,” Sarai writes. “After all, Trump became president in 2016 by winning the Electoral College vote despite losing the popular vote (Article II). He appointed three Supreme Court justices (Article III), two of whom were confirmed by a senator who made up just 44% of the population (Article I). Those three justices were instrumental in overturning Roe v. Wade, an overturn opposed by most Americans.”
“One of the greatest threats to American politics may be the country's founding documents,” the Times reporter added.
The article drew criticism from Musk.
“They want to subvert the Constitution,” he said on X.
“Long live America and the Constitution!” Musk later added:.
