Reich, who served under President Bill Clinton, said there were six ways to “restrain Musk,” including for “regulators around the world to threaten to arrest Musk” and for the Federal Trade Commission to “sue Musk” if he doesn't censor content on X (Twitter).

Establishment-linked figures have heavily criticized Musk since he bought Twitter, which has since been renamed X, for being a “free speech absolutist” and not censoring opposing views.

Musk, who had previously remained largely politically inactive, has become more active in recent days, supporting former President Donald Trump and hosting a record-breaking live interview with him on his platform last month.

“He may be the richest man in the world. He may own one of the most influential social media platforms in the world, but that doesn't mean we can't stop him,” Reich wrote.

Reich also suggested that Musk was using his wildly popular social platform to promote election interference by Russia and other foreign entities in favor of Trump.

“There is growing evidence that Russia and other foreign agents are using X to disrupt this year's presidential election, possibly to Trump's advantage, and Musk is doing little to stop it,” Reich added.

In addition to suggesting lawsuits and government agencies threaten to arrest Musk, Reich also suggested advertisers boycott X, consumers boycott Tesla, and the U.S. government stop contracting with Musk's other company, SpaceX.

“Why does the US government allow Musk's satellites and rocket launchers to be essential to national security given his utter disregard for the public interest? Why give him more economic power when he has repeatedly abused it and shown disregard for the public interest?” he continued.

At the end of the article, Reich announced that he had published a new book, raising questions about the article's true intent.

Reich's final suggestion was for Americans to “make sure Musk's favorite candidate isn't elected for president.”
