Four veteran leaders who know and have worked with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz have slammed the Minnesota governor for lying about his military service.
“The The Megyn Kelly ShowFormer National Guard members Tom Behrens, Paul Herr, Tom Schilling and Rodney Thau called Walz a “habitual liar,” a “deserter” and a “coward.”
“GTMO would be a good place for him to end up.”
Waltz is being accused of defamation for claiming he “carried” a weapon “in war” when he never deployed to a combat zone, and is described as a former “master sergeant” when he never met the requirements to retire at that rank.
Supporters of Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris say the accusations against Walz are false.
Speaking on Kelly's show last week, Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) defended Walz and called the accusations a “total lie.”
“He did not leave the National Guard because he did not want to be deployed,” Smith said. “To claim that is a complete and 100 percent lie.”
“If you're a veteran and you say publicly that Tim Walz decided to retire because he didn't want to go to Iraq, you're saying something you have no way of knowing if that's true,” he added.
Four veterans who appeared on Kelly's show denied Smith's comments, explaining that because of his leadership position, Waltz likely knew about the deployment plans months before they were officially announced to the entire unit.
“He's a chronic liar,” Herr told Kelly. “He lies about everything. He lies about things that don't make sense.”
“It's just one habitual lie after another and it just adds up,” he added.
Later in the interview, Herr said, “He's the result of that, and that's why we stole our bravery. People make cowardly decisions and they come back and try to take over and take command from all the other soldiers, all the gains we've made and all the sacrifices we've made. And they want a piece of it.”
“Fear is a reaction; courage is a decision,” Herr said.
Behrens called Waltz a “deserter.”
“He left his post, left the duty station and walked off into the sunset. I said 'crawl' a lot. He crawled out of the armory and walked off into the sunset. He never looked back and had no intention of returning to the military. He was gone,” Berens said. “He literally turned his uniform inside out and walked off into other areas that he was doing, including voting against everything that happened in Iraq.”
“A good final destination for him would be GTMO, the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba,” he added.
