Longtime California Dem leader says ‘adios’ to her party and registers with GOP because ‘I’ve had enough’

A longtime former California Democratic congressional leader said Wednesday that he no longer[s her] Although she calls herself a “Republican fan,” she still considers many of the party's historical figures, including former President John F. Kennedy, to be her “heroes.”

Gloria Romero, who served as state Senate Majority Leader for three of her more than 10 years in Sacramento, was a vocal critic of the current state of her former party.

Romero, who has served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention for both Sens. Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), said he added that many Latinos and Latinas are leaving the party for similar reasons.

“Today I say, 'Goodbye and adios.' Enough is enough,” the former San Gabriel Valley councilman said in a statement.

“I've been a Democrat for almost my whole life now and I'm part of a growing number of people leaving the Democratic Party.”

“Today I joined the Republican Party to Make America Great Again, and I'm ready to do my part as America prepares to vote,” Romero said, adding that he had received a warm welcome from his former political opponents.

She argued that she could not stand by and watch the Democratic Party take a “giant leap toward authoritarianism.” [and] “Censorship is necessary,” he said, noting that former President Ronald Reagan had warned that the rise of fascism in the United States would masquerade as liberalism.

“It's horrifying to see language being altered to the point that I, a feminist and former professor, am being criticized for simply defining woman and saying that biological sex can be distinct from gender identity,” Romero said.

“I am pro-abortion, but I will not support a party that advocates full-term abortion. I am a mother and refuse to call myself a 'birther.'”

“The Republicans have become the party of peace while the Democrats are hell-bent on endless war.”

She also targeted the green movement within the Democratic Party and voiced her opposition to regulations on consumer electronics.

“[A]”Latina, I'm not going to give up my gas stove because you can't toast tortillas on an electric stove,” she joked.

Standing on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento, Romero said he was a true champion of the working class and would formally join the Reagan-esque “big tent” Republican Party led by former President Trump.

“I will be voting for Donald Trump this fall,” she said.

Asked about Romero's actions, a senior Los Angeles Democratic Party official dismissed her public statements as “old news.”

“We knew at the time that the fraud was real in the Gloria case, which California Republicans know best,” Mark Gonzales, the county's former party chairman, told the Los Angeles Daily News.

Another former party official, X (formerly Twitter), said the Republican Party was “[ing] We update old news to stay relevant.”

The state's top Republican, State Sen. Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego), said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital that Romero had tried and failed to “wake up” his former party's leftward shift and welcomed him to the party.

“Her leadership and experience has always been about serving the people, not partisan politics. It takes real courage to step away from the party you've led and stand up for what's right,” Jones said.

Current Jackson state Sen. Marie Alvarado Gil also switched to the Republican Party in early August.

Alvarado-Gil said at the time that her former political party was also “unrecognizable” and “lacks the will to solve the problems plaguing the state.”
