The father of a boy suspected of killing four people in a Georgia school shooting has been arrested and charged, authorities said. Announced On Thursday.
The father of Colt Gray, the suspect in Wednesday's shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, has been arrested on multiple charges, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Collin Gray, 54, has been charged with eight counts of child abuse, two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of manslaughter.
GBI Director Chris Hosey said Thursday that the charges against Colt's father stem from his “knowingly allowing” his son to possess a weapon.
14-year-old Colt Gray was indicted on four counts of murder Thursday, one for each person killed in Wednesday's shooting. Gray allegedly shot and killed two students and two teachers and wounded nine more. Colt Gray was transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center. The suspect's initial court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. local time on Friday.
Minors are not allowed to own guns in the Peach State, and federal and state laws prohibit them from purchasing guns.
The FBI said Thursday that the current suspect was interviewed about online threats that included photos of a gun in 2023. The FBI said it referred the information to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Colt Gray used a semi-automatic assault rifle in the shooting, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Associated Press. Gray, 14, denied threatening to shoot up the school when questioned by authorities last year over threatening social media posts, according to a sheriff's report obtained by The Associated Press.
