California barber arrested Charged A man has been charged with torture and murder after beating a 6-year-old to death, police said.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office said Ernest Lamar Love was entrusted with caring for the child at a barber shop when he bludgeoned him to death with a 2-by-4 lumber.
“There are no words to describe the absolute horror this boy had to endure.”
On Tuesday, the boy's mother, who worked at the hospital, dropped him off at a barber shop in Placentia.
That evening, at about 1:30 a.m., Love took the seriously injured boy to the hospital.
Police said security camera footage showed Love beating the boy until part of his buttocks was severed.
Hospital officials reported that the child had “raw” and “gaping” wounds, a subdural hematoma and severe brain swelling, and said the child had sustained injuries consistent with being violently shaken.
Police said the suspect poured hydrogen peroxide on the boy's wounds and forced him to do exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks.
“There are no words to describe the absolute horror this little boy had to endure, all at the hands of those who were supposed to protect him, not the torture that led to his death. As prosecutors, we will do everything in our power to pursue justice for Chance and to give him the protection he never got in life,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement.
Love is charged with murder, torture and child abuse resulting in death and faces 32 to life in prison if convicted.
