Trump says ‘lifts’ and ‘boxes’ will not be allowed at debate to boost height

Former President Donald Trump claims he won't be able to adjust the height of the candidates behind the podium in the upcoming presidential debates.

Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday.

“Boxes and artificial lifts are [sic] “We discussed this issue during Comrade Kamala Harris' upcoming debate, but former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also not allowed a 'lift' during the debate,” Trump wrote.

“That's a form of cheating, and the Democrats have cheated enough,” the former president added. “They've decided, 'You be you!'

It was not immediately clear whether Trump had been informed of the outcome of his discussions with ABC ahead of the debate, or was speculating.

The post referenced a past feud between Trump and the former New York City mayor, who the former president mocked as a “mini Mike Bloomberg” during the 2020 Democratic nomination race.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Bloomberg asked him to stand on a box behind the podium during the Democratic primary debates, a claim that has never been supported by evidence that the former mayor made such a request.

“The president lies,” a spokesperson for Bloomberg's 2020 campaign countered at the time. “He's a pathological liar and he's lied about everything, including hair extensions, obesity and spray tanning.”

Harris revealed her height during an interview with “Today” host Katie Couric earlier this year, correcting the interviewer who had claimed the vice president is 5 feet 2 inches tall.

“I'm 5'4″ and a quarter, sometimes 5'4″ and a half,” Harris told Couric. “And when I put on those high heels, which I wear all the time, I'm 5'7″ and a half, thank you very much.”

Trump's own height has been variously reported as 6' 2″ or 6' 3″.
