Active shooter near Kentucky highway, reports of ‘numerous persons’ shot

Kentucky State Police reported a “shooting” occurred Saturday evening near Interstate 75 in London, Kentucky, with “multiple people” shot in traffic.

According to multiple media reports, the incident began about nine miles outside of London just before 6 p.m., when officers were called to reports of multiple vehicles being shot at on Interstate 75 in Laurel County. The shootings were reported to have come from a wooded area or overpass.

“Please avoid the I-75/49 area until further notice! Use alternate routes and stay out of the area,” London Mayor Randall Weddle said on Facebook.

Police officials said no suspects have been arrested.

“The suspect has not been arrested at this time and we urge residents to remain indoors,” Officer Scotty Pennington of the Kentucky State Police posted on Facebook.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear posted on X: “We are aware of a shooting that occurred on I-75 in Laurel County, Kentucky. Please stay out of the area. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”

He also called on residents to “pray for all involved.”

London is a small city of about 8,000 people located about 100 miles northwest of the state capital, Frankfort.
