During Friday's episode of HBO's “Real Time,” host Bill Maher responded to attacks by Cheryl Hines from far-left “nasty posturists” who are “liberals in theory” for failing to condemn her husband, former President Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for supporting 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Maher said that while Hines does not support Trump, he “did not satisfy those aforementioned obnoxious far-left posturors.”
He went on to criticize those who think Hynes should “sacrifice her marriage so you can read what suits your tastes on Twitter.” He wrote: “You want to know why I'm more pissed off at the left than I was before? Here's why. There's an ugliness to them that they never had before. None of the liberals I grew up looking up to are like this. Go after your wife? Not even the mafia does that.” [are] “There are a lot of people these days who, in theory, would call themselves liberals. In theory, they hate bullying, but in practice, their attitude is that sticking your head in a toilet is not bullying.”
Maher added, “Here's the thing that's annoying: That's exactly what Barack Obama said not to do at the Democratic Convention. … Clinton delivered the same message. … And that's the problem. Actual Democratic politicians are generally pretty decent people. The worst of them are far better than the worst Republicans. The Democratic politicians aren't the ones calling for defunding the police and other ridiculous things, they're the ones who are always yelling on social media. Yep, that's who they are. [give] “A lot of people have an aversion to the word 'liberal,' and I get it, Trump is awful. … You don't like Trump? Then don't be like him.”
