Witnesses said the mother of a student at a Louisiana school got into a fight with another student after being forced to enter the school through a side entrance.

The fight reportedly happened around 7 a.m. on August 22nd on the IDEA Bridge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as students were waiting for class to start. According to WAFB:.

Baton Rouge Police responded to the disturbance, but the incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The student who was hit in the incident, Jaenk Brown, said he was trying to defend himself from another student, his sister and his mother.

“She was threatening her, saying things like, 'Let's go out and fight, come on, let's fight,' so just threatening her, everything just started blowing up and then she punched me,” Jarnkwe told WAFB.

Jaenkwe's mother, Yakisha Brown, said she fears for her children's safety at school after the fight.

“There are so many lives at stake in this case and I feel it's unjust and I feel it's wrong,” Brown told the outlet.

Jahenkwe said there were no staff or managers in the room to break up the fight.

“Nobody was there. No teachers. No custodians,” Jaenque said. “We were in the gym at the time and they were supposed to be in the gym. They were supposed to see all of us. They were supposed to come to the gym and they were supposed to be there before we got in there.”

She continued, “We were there for about five minutes, I'm not going to lie, there were students trying to stop it, but there was no administration there or anything like that.”

But the school said school officials responded to the fight, defusing the situation and were able to remove the mother from the school premises.

“IDEA Bridge is aware of an incident that occurred on our campus,” Rebecca Suarez, the school's director of communications, told WABF. “We received a report of a physical confrontation involving a parent.”

“When your child goes to school, you feel like her life is in the hands of the school,” she said. “So it's very, very worrying to know that no one was there the whole time this was going on. We can't leave any room for error. Maybe the wolves should have done that, but they didn't. That situation doesn't exist today because of what's going on in the world.”

The IDEA Public Schools website states that visitors may only enter the school through the main entrance.
