A Colorado man who had been on a multi-day trip was found dead in Grand Canyon National Park over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

According to the National Park Service, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call around 5:30 a.m. reporting a person had been killed at Poncho's Kitchen near the Colorado River.

According to the National Park Service, Patrick Horton, 59, of Salida, Colorado, was discovered by his companions on the 10th day of a non-profit riverboat trip along the Colorado River, and park rangers were called to the scene.

The National Park Service is investigating in conjunction with the Coconino County Coroner's Office.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the park service, which has not yet released a cause or circumstances of death.

Horton is believed to be the seventh person to die at the park within a month and the 14th so far this year. Park officials have reported 11 deaths in 2023, and say there are typically around 10 to 15 deaths per year.

The deaths so far include an 80-year-old man who authorities say died in August after falling from a boat into the river near Fossil Rapids during a commercial river float, and a 33-year-old woman whose body was found in the river the same day. The flood swept her away During a hike on August 22nd.

A 20-year-old New Mexico woman was found beneath Twin Overlook on Aug. 8. A 43-year-old Missouri man died Aug. 1 while attempting a prohibited base jump from Yavapai Point. A 20-year-old North Carolina man died after falling on the South Rim on July 31.
