Princess Kate ‘Cancer Free’ But Long Recovery Lies Ahead, She Says

The Duchess said she has “new hope and gratitude for life” and is now focused on “staying cancer-free” after several months of treatment.

Nine months after major abdominal surgery revealed cancer and she largely disappeared from public view, Princess Kate, who, if all goes well, is likely to become the next Queen of the United Kingdom and more than a dozen countries, has announced that she has completed treatment and will return to public life.

“I am such a relief to finally have completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate said Monday in a short Instagram video that showed family scenes of her cuddling and playing with her children and her husband, Prince William, the first child of Britain's King Charles III. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for our family,” Kate continued, saying that her experience with cancer treatment had been “unpredictable,” but that she is now “cancer free.”

But as the Princess says, there is still a long road ahead: “Although the chemotherapy is over, there is a long way to go before I am cured and fully recovered and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”

“However, I look forward to returning to work in the coming months and taking part in some further public activities when possible.”

The message is the latest development in a challenging health year for the British royal family, in which both the king and future queen have been diagnosed with cancer and largely disappeared from public view. Kate was last seen for several months on Christmas Day 2023, according to reports, and the next known presence of the Duchess was in mid-January, when the palace announced she had been admitted to hospital for “major abdominal surgery.”

His recovery would take several weeks, and he was not due to be seen until Easter, but this prediction was optimistic. At the same time, it was revealed that the King had been receiving treatment for a “benign” enlarged prostate, although, like Princess Kate, the diagnosis was later changed to cancer.

Princess Kate has been the subject of considerable public speculation, and there have even been attempts by prying eyes to gain access to her health records.
