‘Dishonest’: GOP Strategist Fires Back At Ex-Biden Surrogate After He Defended Harris’ Border Security Record

Republican strategist Joe Pinion rejected former President Joe Biden's campaign surrogate Jonathan Cott's defense of Vice President Kamala Harris' record on border security on Tuesday.

Harris has campaigned on solving the border crisis, and a Harvard-Harris poll conducted in late July found that about 70% of voters, including a majority of Democrats, believe she supports “open borders.” Cotto said on “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” that Harris has tried to implement tough border policies as vice president, but Pinion said Harris “is not an expert on the border.” (Related: Greg Abbott urges Biden-Harris administration to reimburse illegal immigrants for medical expenses in new executive order)

“You look at how she's tried to govern as vice president. She worked directly with senators of both parties to pass the toughest bipartisan immigration bill since the 2013 bill that I was a part of, and then the 2018 bill that the Trump administration blocked and directed Republicans to oppose,” Cotto said. “So I think you look at that bill. She signed that bill and got Congress to sign it, and that's what led to fewer border crossings… We have to address asylum… We need more judges, we need more places to house migrants who are coming across the border, and she has demonstrated how she wants to get that done.”

“There's been a lot of talk about the failure of bipartisanship, of bipartisanship, on immigration since I was born. People use the phrase 'understanding immigration reform' as a colloquial catch-all term and ignore the fact that they've accomplished nothing,” Pinion countered. “But the fact that people continue to sit here and claim that Kamala Harris is some kind of genius when it comes to the border is fundamentally disingenuous.”

More than 50% of voters believe former President Donald Trump would do a better job on immigration than Harris. According to Sunday New York Times/Siena College.

Biden Appointed Harris will lead the administration's efforts to resolve the border crisis in early 2021, directing it to address the root causes of illegal migration, particularly from Central America. Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, more than 7 million migrants have attempted to enter the U.S. at the southern border. According to Data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

As a California senator and Democratic presidential candidate, Harris supported taxpayer-funded sex-reassignment surgery for immigrants in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. According to 2019 American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Survey Excavated CNN reported on Monday.
