Kamala Harris Claims She Supports Israel

CLAIM: Kamala Harris claimed to support Israel after Donald Trump said she “hates” the country.

Verdict: Mostly false. Despite her rhetorical support, Harris hired rabidly anti-Israel advisers.

During the presidential debate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ABC News host Lindsey Davis asked Vice President Harris how she would end President Joe Biden's failed war in Gaza.

Harris dodged the question and merely repeated Biden's policies of pursuing a ceasefire and hostage agreement and working toward a two-state solution. (By contrast, on the Ukraine war, Harris has vowed to pursue victory over Russia.)

In his rebuttal, Trump said Harris “hates Israel.” Though she has offered muted, formulaic support for Israel on the counterterrorism front, she has hired a number of anti-Israel advisers to key campaign posts, a sign of her future policies.

Harris also threatened to cut off arms supplies to Israel if it attacked Rafah, a key strategic city in the Gaza Strip. He stated that he had “studied the maps.” This threat was unprecedented. Israel eventually attacked Rafah because of its importance to winning the war against Hamas.

The experience has left many Israelis questioning Harris' support. Jerusalem Post The paper has seen its editorial direction shift from right to left over the years. Editorial The headline was, “A Harris Presidency Could Be Disaster for Israel and the Jewish People.”

Harris also expressed sympathy for the “sentiments” behind anti-Israel and even anti-Semitic protests.
