CLAIM: Kamala Harris claims Donald Trump “refuses to rent properties to black families” and calls for the “execution” of the Central Park Five.
Verdict: False. These are both inaccurate claims, and the ABC News hosts left them uncorrected.
ABC News' Lindsey Davis and David Muir frequently attempted to fact-check former President Trump, but never did so for Vice President Harris, and not because she was telling the truth.
In response to a question about race, Harris alleged that Trump “refuses to rent real estate to black families.”
This claim has been made for years but has never been proven. The Associated Press fact-checked the claim in 2016, Reported Trump and his father settled the lawsuit with the government without admitting fault.
Regarding his allegations against the Central Park Five, Trump called for the death penalty in general, but did not specifically call for the “execution” of the defendants.
When Democrats made the claim at their convention last month, Breitbart News fact-checked it.
Members of the Central Park Five appeared on stage Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. They were accused of gang-raping a woman while she was jogging in New York City's Central Park in 1989.
Their guilt was widely accepted by the public, especially since several of them confessed to the crimes. They were released after another person claimed that he had raped the victim, Trisha Meili, and that he had acted alone.
Their story was retold last year by columnist Ann Coulter. [emphasis removed]:
Four out of five people filmed a video Confessionat least three people parents Defense lawyers spent weeks attacking the confession as “coerced,” but two multicultural jurors and the judge concluded that the confession was voluntary.
…
More than a decade later, psychopathic murderer Matias Reyes “confessed” to being the only one to rape a woman while she was out jogging. Although the crime carries no additional prison time, DNA testing of his semen can only prove that he raped her, and not that he acted alone or as a former cellmate. sayHe heard the screams of people joggers and ran over to join the ongoing attack.
Trump Taken out Full-page advertisement New York Daily News In the aftermath of the incident, he gave a speech in which he passionately condemned the rise in crime and called for the death penalty for the killers, though he did not specifically call for the execution of the Central Park Five.
In his rebuttal, Trump correctly pointed out that some of the Central Park Five had pleaded guilty at the time.
Notably, Harris did not offer any other evidence to support her claim that Trump is dividing Americans along racial lines.
