Blinken pledges $700M in aid to Ukraine

Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced more than $700 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv on Wednesday.

The State Department said the aid would “continue to support Ukraine and its people as they counter Russia's war of aggression.” press release.

The aid package includes $325 million to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure, about $290 million for humanitarian assistance and more than $103 million to “address mines and unexploded ordnance left behind by Russian forces,” according to the announcement.

On Wednesday, Blinken met with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Blinken and Ukrainian President Volodymy Zelensky. According to the announcement: State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

“Secretary Blinken reiterated the United States' enduring support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's war of aggression,” Miller said of the meeting, which took place in Ukraine. “The three reviewed future diplomatic relations, including at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and discussed the importance of nations around the world upholding Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the principles of the UN Charter.”

“I had a very substantial and lengthy meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken @SecBlinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy where we discussed a full range of important issues,” Zelensky said in a post on social platform X on Wednesday.

“It is important that Ukraine's demands are heard. This includes long-range weapons, resupply of combat brigades on the front lines, and a holistic strategy for achieving a just peace,” Zelensky said. I wrote in X's post.

Secretary of State Blinken's announcement of the support comes after House Republican leaders wrote to President Biden on Monday urging him to reverse a policy that restricts Ukraine from using U.S.-made weapons to attack Russian soil.
