Patrick Mahomes won't publicly endorse any presidential candidate in this year's election.
The Chiefs quarterback told reporters on Wednesday that he wouldn't tell people who they should vote for, but he would urge them to register to vote in preparation for the election of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in November.
“I've always said I don't want my position or my platform to be used to endorse any candidate,” he said. “I see my role as just letting people know to register to vote, to do their own research and make the best decision for themselves and their families.”
This was the same day that President Trump appeared on “Fox & Friends” and said he was a fan of the general's wife, Brittany Mahomes.
While talking about Taylor Swift's endorsement of Harris on Tuesday night, President Trump said on his morning show that Brittany is a fan of his as he seeks reelection.
“The truth is, I like Mrs. Mahomes a lot more. She's a big Trump fan,” Trump said. “I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great.”
“She's a huge MAGA fan. Much better than Taylor Swift.”
In August, Brittany appeared to “like” and then “unlike” an Instagram post by Trump that outlined the Republican Party's policies for the 2024 presidential election.
Mahomes was asked about Trump's comments about his wife but did not say whether he supports the 45th president.
“I think you all know Brittany does a lot in the community, and I do a lot in the community to help lift people up and give them a voice,” he told reporters. “In political times, people are going to take advantage of things here and there, but I try not to let that affect how I go about my day to day work in my life and try to do it to the best of my ability.”
Shortly after Tuesday night's heated debate, Swift, who is the girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, spoke out in support of Harris and running mate Tim Walz.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President in 2024,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “I Follow She is fighting for a right and a cause, and I believe we need warriors to defend it.”
Kelsey has not endorsed the election. The Daily Mail reported. He said he plans to support Harris along with Swift.
