Americans craving civility and civility in a tumultuous political season found such a moment when presidential candidates stood close to each other at the 9/11 memorial in New York City.
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to share a warm handshake on Wednesday, facilitated by former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

The moment was hailed by many as a show of civility after a fiery presidential debate that reflected the divisive state of the country.

The two presidential candidates shook hands before the debate, but Harris walked close to Trump's podium for a brief conversation that appeared awkward to some.
Many noted that the debate will also mark the first time that Harris and Trump will meet in person since the former president actively rejected the official results of the election and avoided attending the 2021 inauguration.
