Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in an interview Wednesday that former President Trump reminds her of a balloon that deflates as soon as you “stick a pin in it.”
Asked in an interview with CNN's AC360 whether she had noticed a change in Trump's “skill level” or “stamina, mentality or whatever”, Pelosi, the top Democrat in the House of Representatives throughout the Trump administration, said the Republican nominee had “diminished significantly”.
“You know those big balloons that you stick a pin in and it goes around the room and then it becomes nothing? He reminds me of that,” Pelosi said in the interview. “It gets smaller and smaller, and it's like someone stuck a pin in him and he gets really small.”
Her comments came as Democrats were thrilled with Vice President Harris' performance in Tuesday's debate and many Republicans expressed dissatisfaction with Trump's performance.
“We're talking about domestic issues, people's personal health, people's economic health, all the things that people care about, and what is he talking about? Well, the things you just talked about,” Pelosi told Anderson Cooper.
“But I think people saw the big difference in who can be commander in chief and who can be respected,” Pelosi added of the debate.
Ms Harris and Mr Trump faced off on the debate stage for the first time on Tuesday night, with Ms Harris frequently taunting the former president and Mr Trump often responding to her taunts or veering into conspiracy theories.
Many Republicans responded to the debate by criticizing ABC News' hosts, and Trump even suggested he might punish the network.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chan denied Pelosi's criticism.
“Nancy Pelosi has no idea what she's talking about and is a proven liar and con artist. If she wasn't busy giving herself fake titles to make herself feel better, she'd be peddling fake news because that's the only thing she's ever done,” he said in an email on Thursday.
