Grocery Store Chain Aldi Raising Minimum Wage to $18 and $23 an Hour

Popular grocery store chain Aldi announced on September 4 that it will raise its minimum wage to $18 and $23 an hour as the company grows.

Aldi's press release further stated that the company plans to hire more than 13,000 store and warehouse employees across the country as the holiday season approaches. open Additional stores.

The announcement continued:

Known for its commitment to competitive compensation, ALDI's new national average starting pay for open store and warehouse positions will be $18 and $23 per hour, respectively, depending on the market and position.

At ALDI, employees who work more than 30 hours a week are given benefits like health insurance and paid time off. In 2023, in response to employee feedback, the company introduced new benefits like flexible work schedules and 100% paid parental and eldercare leave.

Notably, California enacted a law in April requiring fast food workers to be paid a minimum wage of $20 an hour, with Breitbart News pointing out that “higher minimum wages tend to displace the most vulnerable and low-skilled workers whose jobs don't pay enough to support higher wages.”

Aldi plans to add 800 stores across the US over the next five years, The Associated Press reported in March. The news comes as people in President Joe Biden's America grapple with inflation and try to save money.

“Inflation is causing many consumers to change the way they shop, as consumers, put off by prices that are, on average, about 19% higher than before the pandemic, are looking for new ways to cut spending,” the Associated Press article said, noting that shoppers are opting for private label products, shopping at discount stores and buying fewer items.

Data from September 2022 showed that discount stores' costs had risen with inflation, with Aldi's prices reportedly increasing by 17%, according to Breitbart News.

According to the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index (CPI), consumer prices have risen 20.2% since Vice President Kamala Harris and Biden took office, Breitbart News reported on August 15.

“Americans continue to feel the burden of runaway inflation,” it said, adding, “This is the worst inflation record of any president since Jimmy Carter.”
