Harris campaign calls Trump 'faded image of his former self'

A spokesperson for Vice President Harris' campaign criticized former President Trump on Fox News, arguing that Trump doesn't generate the same excitement he once did and that this is reflected in his rally turnout.

Fox News host Neil Cavuto asked Ian Sams, a senior campaign spokesman, whether he would acknowledge that while Harris “may have exaggerated certain facts a little bit,” the size of the crowd of his supporters was “considerably larger than Kamala Harris' supporters.”

“I don't know if you've seen crowds or rallies in recent months, but I don't think so,” Sams said during an appearance on Cavuto's “Your World” show on Friday. “I think there's a lot of people who are going to get distracted during 45 minutes of raving about electric sharks and Hannibal Lecter…”

Cavuto said both White House candidates were losing roughly equal numbers of supporters as the rallies progressed, and asked Sams if he thought Trump could still “tighten up his supporters.”

“That was the case before,” Sams replied. “He's faded from his old image. I think in 2016 there was a lot more excitement and a bigger audience. Now, the show is nine seasons in and it's starting to lose its plot a bit, so I think the new character might be preferable.”

The debate over the size of the crown came after both candidates touched on the topic during Tuesday night's debate, with Harris criticizing Trump and saying attendees were leaving his rallies because of a lack of enthusiasm.

“He talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He talks about windmills causing cancer,” Harris said at the debate. “You'll also find that people leave his rallies early out of fatigue and boredom. And the one thing he won't talk about is you.”

“People don't go to her rallies,” Trump fired back, “so she can't talk about it. People don't go to my rallies.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
