2 Ohio hospitals lock down due to bomb threats

Springfield, Ohio (W.D.N.) — Bomb threats have been received at two Springfield medical centers, causing both facilities to be placed on lockdown.

On the morning of Saturday, September 14th, the Springfield Police Department received a report of a bomb threat against two hospitals in the city.

Kettering Health Springfield Hospital on North Limestone Street was one of the hospitals targeted. Kettering Health said police notified the hospital's security team, who placed the hospital on temporary lockdown.

Police officers and the hospital's security team jointly searched the premises but found nothing suspicious.

Kettering Health says the lockdown has since been lifted.

“The safety procedures we have in place to prepare for these types of events allow us to work quickly with local law enforcement to thoroughly investigate any threats and ensure the safety of our patients and staff,” Kettering Health said in a statement.

Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center, 100 Medical Center Drive, was also briefly placed on lockdown after authorities heard about a possible bomb threat around 6 a.m.

Police and security personnel searched the scene but found nothing and deemed the threat unlikely at that location either. A Mercy Health spokesperson said the hospital remained open during this time.

“One of our most important responsibilities is the safety and security of our patients, visitors, associates and physicians,” the spokesperson said. “We would like to thank the Springfield Police Department and the team on scene for their fast, efficient and compassionate response.”
