The word hungry has taken on new meaning after a North Carolina Waffle House customer killed a teenage employee because he was taking too long to eat his meal.
The disoriented man entered the Laurinburg Waffle House around 12:42 a.m. Friday and, after placing his order, became increasingly “agitated and abusive toward employees” while his food was being prepared, the Laurinburg Police Department said in a news release.
Police say 18-year-old Burley Dawson Locklear was shot when a customer fired two shots into the chain after receiving a less-than-satisfactory meal.
“Once the food was handed to the suspect, he walked toward the Chevrolet, turned and fired two shots in the direction of the store, striking Locklear,” police said.
Locklear, of Red Springs, was pronounced dead after being taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital.
The shooter, who was seen on security camera footage and has not yet been identified, is still at large and police said he had long dreadlocks and a beard and fled the scene in a dark gray 2014 Chevrolet.
Officers said he was last seen wearing a dark blue pullover hoodie, jeans and white shoes.
“We are mourning the tragic loss of one of our Waffle House employees who was the victim of an outrageous act of violence early this morning at our restaurant in Laurinburg, North Carolina,” Waffle House officials said in a statement. by the way.
“We are working closely with police as they investigate this case,” the statement added. “We will do everything in our power to help authorities locate and apprehend this killer.”
