A poll released Sunday showed Vice President Harris narrowing former President Trump's lead in Iowa to just four points, shrinking the Republican's 18-point lead over President Biden in June.
of Latest Des Moines Register/MediaCom Iowa PollThe poll, conducted Sept. 8-11, showed Trump leading Harris among Iowa voters, 47 percent to 43 percent.
A similar poll conducted in June, before Biden ended his campaign, showed Trump leading Biden 50 percent to 32 percent.
The latest poll also includes Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent candidate who has ended his campaign but whose name will appear on the Iowa ballot. Mr. Kennedy's support was 6 percent in the latest poll, down from 9 percent in June.
The poll included 1 percent of respondents who said they would vote for Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver, 1 percent who said they would vote for another candidate, and 1 percent who said they didn't know.
Iowa women are clearly supporting Harris, a growing trend seen in polls across the country: In the latest poll, women support Harris over Trump 53 percent to 36 percent, while men support her over Trump 59 percent to 32 percent.
The poll also showed growing enthusiasm: 81% of Iowans say they will definitely vote in the election, up from 76% in June.
Voters who support Harris are slightly more enthusiastic than those who support Trump: 80% of those who support Harris say they are very (34%) or quite (46%) enthusiastic, while 74% of those who support Trump say they are very (33%) or quite (40%) enthusiastic.
The poll included 656 Iowa voters and had a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
