Chicago's Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, a self-described “progressive,” was grilled by older black residents at a recent town hall meeting about his failed immigration policies.
The 80-year-old woman, who said she grew up in the South under Jim Crow laws, said Johnson's pro-immigration policies were literally destroying the black community in the Windy City.
“All I can say to you is you are a disgrace,” the distraught woman began her comments.
“I'm an 80-year-old woman and I've never seen anything like this. I grew up in the Jim Crow South and the policies that are being passed in this city remind me of the Jim Crow South,” she continued.
“I had to drink from the colored fountain and white people drank from the white fountain,” she explained, “but you know what I didn't have to worry about? That if I went back to my community it was going to be destroyed. Everyone else in my community is not black. That's what you've done with this immigration policy.”
The woman then spoke about how wave after wave of immigration under Johnson has ripped Chicago's black community to shreds.
“You are allowing all these people to come into this city and are destroying this city. The black community is filled with all these immigrants, violent people, prostitutes, gangs. You did this! You are doing this to your own people. You are a total disgrace to me,” she said angrily.
“Like I said, I drank from that black fountain, but I was able to go back to that black community that was intact,” she said, contrasting it with what's happening today. “Women are crying, taxes are going up. What am I going to do with my kids? Where are we going to live? This is your fault, Brandon Johnson! You're destroying black neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side with your policies. It's all Democrat fault,” she said.
“You are a disgrace,” the resident concluded.
This is not the first time Chicago Mayor Johnson and his allies have faced harsh criticism from local black residents.
Recently, Chicago Congressman Jonathan Jackson held a town hall meeting where black residents again lambasted him for the immigration crisis that is ravaging black communities.
One resident at the Jackson town hall warned that Democrats are replacing black people in Chicago with immigrants.
Black Americans in Chicago have begun organizing at the grassroots level against the wave of immigration that has hit the city and against their own elected officials, especially since most of the city's taxpayer-funded migrant shelters have been located in black neighborhoods.
The situation has worsened to the point that earlier this year grassroots black organizations in Chicago vowed to “vote red” and begin purging black Democrats from public office.
This clash between black voters and black officeholders may already be having a serious impact on the Democratic Party in the form of declining support from black voters.
Recent polls suggest that Barack Obama had the support of 95 percent of black voters in both presidential elections, but Kamala Harris currently has the support of only 63 percent of black voters.
