Former President Trump appealed to New York voters in a Truth Social post on Tuesday afternoon, despite the state's historically Democratic voting record.
“It's going to be a really big event tomorrow at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. It's going to be packed with Patriots fans! We have a real chance of winning in New York for the first time in decades,” Trump, a New York native, said. He said in the post:.
“Hundreds of thousands of immigrants, record crime, terrorists on the rise, inflation eating away at your soul. What have you got to lose? Vote Trump! I will turn it around, bring back the salt, lower taxes and much more. I will work with a Democrat Governor and Mayor to secure the funding to bring New York State back to levels not seen in 50 years. People are fleeing. We may be able to get them to FLEE BACK!” Trump continued in his lengthy post.
The former president is scheduled to stop off in Uniondale, New York, for a rally on Wednesday, which also happened to be the day Judge Juan Marchand is scheduled to sentence Trump in the New York hush money lawsuit.
Trump lost New York in both 2016 and 2020, but New York is a key state for Republicans if they want to maintain their slim majority in the House in 2024. Several Republicans who hold New York House seats, including Reps. Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Anthony D'Esposito and Brandon Williams, will face tough fights in the next election cycle.
President Trump said Tuesday he was working with New York Gov. Kathy Hockal, despite previous negative comments about her after he criticized her speech at the Democratic National Convention last month.
“The highly unpopular Governor of New York, Kathy Hockle, was the meanest speaker at the (Democratic National Convention) Monday night regarding me, your favorite President,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Her utter hatred and rhetoric toward me knew no bounds.”
The Hill has reached out to Hoekl's press office.
“We don't comment on hypotheticals,” Fabian Levy, deputy communications director for New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), said in an email.
