White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told Fox News' Peter Doocy that questions about whether the administration would stop using the word “threat” to describe former President Donald Trump were “very dangerous.”
Doocy's question came after several reporters asked Jean-Pierre to comment on Trump's claims that comments from the White House and Kamala Harris' campaign sparked the second assassination attempt on Sunday.
Reporters and Jean-Pierre said Trump's claims were “without evidence,” even as the suspect, Ryan Wesley Rouse, repeated Biden and Harris' arguments, including that “democracy depends on voting.”
Jean-Pierre said that while the administration condemns political violence, Trump is certainly a threat to democracy, whether it be because of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol or the rhetoric he generally uses.
Doocy then asked the following question:
“It's only been two days since we were told someone tried to kill Donald Trump again, and here you are, at the podium in the White House briefing room, calling him a threat. How many more assassination attempts will there be against Donald Trump before the president, the vice president and you describe Trump in words other than a threat?”
Jean-Pierre rebuked Douchy, saying: “The way you ask your questions is incredibly dangerous.”
She reiterated that in the White House's view, the former president was indeed a “threat to democracy” after January 6.
Doocy then questioned whether people might act on the word “threat,” unaware that the call was for mentally unstable people to refrain from making political statements. “Aren't you concerned that people might take it literally?”
“We're just giving an example. We're not saying that, we're just saying: January 6th, Peter. January 6th. Wait. January 6th. How many more times can I say it? January 6th, 2021,” she said. She reiterated that the administration condemns the violence.
