Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is facing strong backlash after the Republican criticized Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for not having children of her own.
Sanders is comment before hosting a town hall event with former President Donald Trump in Flint, Michigan on Tuesday.
“There's nothing about Kamala Harris that keeps her humble.”
“My children constantly remind me of what's important and they also keep me humble,” Sanders said.
“When you walk on stage and you walk into a room like this and people are cheering, you think for a moment you're special, but then you go home and your kids quickly remind you that it's really no big deal. My kids are great at that,” she continued.
“So my kids keep me humble,” she added. “Unfortunately, Kamala Harris has nothing to keep her humble.”
Harris has two stepchildren from her marriage to Doug Emhoff, but no biological children.
Many on the left seized on the comment, drawing comparisons to criticisms made by Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance about “childless cat ladies” before he became the candidate.
“Why would they become so attached to a childless woman with whom they have a biological connection?” asked Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC.
