A crazed man wanted for stabbing a Brooklyn laundromat employee was shot and killed by state police in upstate New York on Wednesday after crashing a stolen vehicle and fleeing into the woods, police and officials said.
The tense search ended Wednesday afternoon when Ali Ali, who was considered armed and dangerous, was shot and killed about 2 p.m. in an area along Trout Brook Road in Highland Mills, Orange County. New York State Police said in a statement:.
About two hours earlier, National Guard troops had been trying to stop a stolen vehicle that had crashed and burst into flames near milepost 49, north of Exit 16 on the New York State Thruway.
Ali, who was driving the car, fled the scene into the woods.
Police issued an evacuation advisory for residents in the area after he was spotted on a trail camera near Maplewood Drive in the Highland Mills area around 12:35 p.m.
About an hour and a half later, “a clash occurred and at least one state trooper fired a firearm,” killing Ali.
Ali was wanted by authorities after he became violent on Monday after going to a Brooklyn laundromat to pick up some clothes and being told they weren't ready, police and sources said.
A fellow employee, who asked not to be named, said the man jumped onto the counter and slashed the neck and arms of a 50-year-old woman who worked there.
The woman added that the laundromat was busy and there was $15.34 worth of laundry still in the machines.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
