Supporters of Republican candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday rejected CNN reporter Elle Reeve's attempt to portray Trump as succeeding with President Joe Biden's economic policies.
Supporter Joe Harner said at Trump's boat parade that he thinks the economy and inflation are the most important issues ahead of the election in 2024. Reeve suggested that because Trump supporters own boats, they won't be worse off financially under a Biden-Harris administration.
“I know this is a bit rude of me to ask, but if you can afford a boat, it can't be that bad, right? Boats are expensive and they cost money to maintain,” Reeve asked.
“Look, nobody's gonna give me a run for my money,” Harner said. “Everything I have, I earned. I'm a military veteran, I retired from a power plant. And I was successful and retired with my boat and my jet skis because I did the right thing. And everybody has that opportunity, whether they choose to or not, that's up to them.”
The reporter then argued that Harner isn't struggling to pay for groceries like other people, and that it's interesting that wealthy people are worried about the economy. (RELATED: 'It just came out of the polls': David Axelrod says Kamala Harris needs to avoid 'roundabout' answers on economy)
“I want to get more out of my money, I want lower inflation, I want lower interest rates. I want all of that. But that applies to everybody in the economy. Not just me, not just poor people, not just rich people. It applies to everybody,” Harner said.
Most polls show Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris on the economy, the top issue for a majority of voters. The New York Times/Siena College vote The poll, from Sept. 8, found Trump holding a 13-point lead over Harris on the economy, 55% to 42%, with 21% of 1,374 voters surveyed saying the economy was their biggest issue.

Harris reportedly wanted to distance herself from Biden's unpopular views on the economy and inflation. According to According to an Axios report on August 14, President Trump accused VP Harris of copying his own plan to eliminate tip taxes for service workers, which she announced two months after the former president released the same proposal.
