On NBC's “MTP Now” on Wednesday, NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd said Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, has been “pretty vague” about the economy because “she's put out so many papers that all of a sudden she's the center of attention, and she wants to make Trump the talking point and do everything about it.” And while “we know” what her Republican counterpart, former President Donald Trump, is “going to do on Day One,” Harris doesn't.
Todd began by saying that during the campaign he made good-sounding economic promises but avoided discussing their flaws, making some of his proposals unworkable.
He added, “I think it was a bit of a risk for Harris not to go public with so much. You asked an interesting question, but think about it. At this point in a campaign, we usually have a rough idea of what they're going to do, right? With Biden, we knew it was COVID-related, but we knew it was going to be a big deal.” [COVID]You all knew about Trump's tax cuts. You all knew about Obama. He made a health care promise during the primaries. What will her first 100 days look like? What is she going to do on day one? We know what he's going to do on day one. Whether you agree with it or not, there is a plan to do that. This is very, I think a little bit risk averse, but she puts out too many papers and all of a sudden finds herself in the middle and she wants to talk about Trump and everything about that. And I think his tariff proposal was an easy one for Harris to smack. … But I wonder if that could work against her at some point if voters are saying, 'Yeah yeah yeah, I don't like what he's doing, but what are you going to do?' And it was pretty vague.”
