The Cincinnati Reds are entering the final few games of the 2024 season but will be doing so without David Bell in the dugout.
The Reds fired Bell after a 2-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday night, which dropped them to 76-81 this season.

Cincinnati named bench coach Freddy Benavidez interim manager for the final five games of the season.
“David has brought much-needed stability to our clubhouse over the past few seasons. We felt a change was necessary to move our major league team forward. We have not had the success we hoped for and need to begin focusing on 2025,” Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall said in a news release.
The Reds hired Bell prior to the start of the 2019 season to replace Bryan Price and Jim Riggleman. Price was fired during the 2018 season and Riggleman took over for the remainder of the year.

The White Sox suffered their 120th loss, tying the MLB record set by the 1962 New York Mets.
Bell never led Cincinnati to a finish higher than third in the National League Central, and the Reds made the playoffs in the coronavirus-affected 2020 season, their only playoff appearance since 2013.
Bell has 409 wins and 456 losses as a manager.
Cincinnati has a lot of potential and the organization clearly realizes that new voices could help the team get through some difficulties, with Hunter Greene, Ellie De La Cruz and Andrew Abbott being some of the young players who are leading the charge for the future.
