Joe Manchin says new policy from Kamala Harris may basically ‘destroy our country’; Sinema calls it ‘absolutely terrible’

Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris said She has said she supports sweeping changes to congressional rules, and two moderate liberal senators have criticized her for that.

Harris said Democrats should abolish the Senate filibuster in order to pass nationwide abortion rights with a simple majority in the Senate, but some on the left have expressed opposition.

“I think it could basically destroy our country. … I think that's the scariest thing.”

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said he would refuse to back Harris on the policy.

“Shame on her. She knows the filibuster is the holy grail of democracy. It's the only way we can continue to talk and work together. If she abolished it, the House would be like it's on steroids,” he said. According to To CNN.

“I think this could basically destroy our country. Our country is more important to me than any individual or any individual's ideas,” he added. “I think this is the most frightening thing.”

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a former Democrat and now an independent, also criticized Harris.

“To state the very clearest thing, eliminating the filibuster to enact Roe v. Wade would allow a future Congress to ban all abortions nationwide. That's a completely terrible and shortsighted idea,” she said. Posts On social media.

Manchin and Sinema were roundly criticized by many Democrats for voting against party lines to preserve the bipartisanship of the U.S. Senate.

Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas Condemned Harris has varied widely on the filibuster.

“While Kamala wants to abolish the filibuster, she signed a letter as a senator pledging to support the filibuster to ensure the Senate 'continues to serve as the premier deliberative body in the world,'” he wrote in a social media post.

“Her words mean nothing. She'll say anything to get elected,” Cotton added.

Not surprisingly, abortion advocates Praised Harris's radical position.
