Florida man accused of threatening Trump released from house arrest

A Florida man was released from house arrest a week ago after being accused of making death threats on social media against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance.

Michael Martin Wiseman, 68, of Jupiter, was arrested in July and released from house arrest on Sept. 17, according to court records.

He was arrested a few miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, in the same county where suspect Ryan Routh allegedly plotted the assassination at Trump's golf course on September 15.

Wiseman has participated in a pretrial intervention program that could have led to the case being dropped, but prosecutors have now reinstated charges against him.

The documents show Routh may have been stalking Mar-a-Lago and the Trump golf course for weeks, plotting his escape.

According to court documents, Weissman was charged with writing death threats, which were made days after the first assassination attempt against Trump, which took place in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, when a gunman shot and sliced off the former president's ear.

The Jupiter Police Department said in a news release that officers became aware of the threats through online crime tips and from residents expressing concerns directly.

Police said after investigating the report and the suspect's Facebook account, they found that Weissman had made threats against Trump and Vance.

According to court records, Weissman agreed to a pretrial intervention with prosecutors that included pleading guilty to posting such messages on social media as “Trump and Vance should be killed before they turn us over to Western Russia,” “Ready, Aim, Shoot. Repeat” and “Some people need to shoot better if they know they're going to kill a monster.”

The post also included an image of Trump's face through the crosshairs of a sniper scope, records show.

As part of the agreement, Wiseman will be prohibited from possessing firearms, will undergo a mental health evaluation and will have to refrain from posting on social media for a period of time.

According to court documents, the state is now seeking to void the pretrial intervention agreement and reinstate the charges against Wiseman, who was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

“After obtaining a fair resolution of the case by imposing strict conditions on the defendant, it became apparent that incorrect methods were used to resolve the case,” the state prosecutor's office said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The state and defense have agreed to return the case to the trial docket to correct the error.”

Regarding Wiseman's release from house arrest, the State Attorney's Office said he is not a flight risk and will be required to appear in court while the case is pending.
