MSNBC columnist and contributor Charlie Sykes told “Deadline” on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump is literally using rhetoric that sounds like the words of Adolf Hitler.
“At the Republican National Convention here in Milwaukee, he held up a sign that said mass deportations. As you point out, this is what Donald Trump is. This is not just a gaffe or a one-off. This is the theme of his campaign. He's doubled down on it,” Sykes said.
He continued, “Why are they focusing on a Haitian in Springfield when the whole crowd is yelling for him? The racism is so blatant. We're six weeks away from the election, and I can't help but think about what that would mean for American culture and the American people if we actually looked at this guy and said, yeah, let's put him back in power.”
Sykes added, “This is one of those fundamental moments frozen in time where America has to make a decision. Again, there's no subtlety in racism. He changed the subject from Mexicans to Haitians, Haitians who are here legally. He continues to talk about it even though his original story has been completely proven false and completely refuted.”
She said, “He has spoken over and over again about how immigrants who are here legally are staining the blood of America, the United States. They are staining our blood. This is just outdated rhetoric. I don't think you can whitewash this. You can't normalize this.”
He concluded that “it is literally Hitlerian, Hitlerite rhetoric.”
