The left is praising FX's new high school comedy series English Teacher It is known for promoting gay politics and featuring a scene in which a gay teacher brings in drag queens to teach teenagers how to perform drag.
The series follows a gay English teacher named Evan (show creator and star Brian Jordan Alvarez) as he struggles to incorporate gay, transgender and so-called “non-binary” issues into his classroom and school while constantly arguing with the parents of his students (which Evan laments as the “evil intentions” of “conservative parents”), much to the consternation of his embattled principal, Grant Moretti (Enrico Colantoni).
For example, in the show's pilot, Evan is accused by parents at his school of kissing his boyfriend in front of the kids, and when one of the parents complains to the principal about the sexual activity in front of the kids, Evan begins accusing the parent of being a “homophobe” and a politically motivated partisan.
In another scene in the show, Evan meets up with an ex-boyfriend and attacks his “evil conservative parents” after being ordered to take the rest of the day off from work.
Evan turns out to be a gay activist and says he's teaching in a conservative district to take on evil parents.
“No, but I have no choice but to stay there, because it is in those places of prejudice that I can make the most difference. If I am not going to try to improve the future of the kids coming through that system, then what am I doing? If we give in to the evil intentions of conservative parents, then our kids will grow up just like them and we will go back to 1980 or worse,” he said. In the clipAccording to News Busters.
Naturally, the scene ends with them getting back together, despite the ex-lover saying they've broken up.
In the series' second episode, Evan begins a discussion at his school's book club meeting about the school's “Powder Puff” tradition, in which the football team dresses up as cheerleaders and performs a funny skit for the entire student body at an assembly. However, it turns out that some of Evan's “non-binary” students dislike the tradition because it is based on the football players “making fun” of men who dress as women.
After the LGBTQAA+ kids aired their dissatisfaction, Evan asked, “So you just want the boys to perform authentically and respectfully. Is that enough for you?”
So he decided to bring in some drag queen friends to teach the football team how to do a real drag performance, not just dress up in cheerleading costumes and tell jokes.
Evan is accompanied by his friend, drag queen Shazam ( RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars After Evan introduces Shazam to a group of skeptical football players, the drag queen tries to explain his profession.
Shazam: I'm like a guy. Yeah, I'm cool like you guys. I'm a cool guy. I sit at home, I wear tube socks, I blow my nose, I've got hair.
Evan: But when she dresses like this, she becomes Shazam.
Shazam: When I dress like this, I become your mom.
Evan then told the boys, “Shazam is going to show you the right way to dress like a girl,” adding, “She and I will be your coaches.”
When the School Committee finds out about the plans for the drag performance, they tell Evan that the plan was a no-go from the start, but Evan tells the football team that he's going to tear up the note and put on a drag show anyway. Naturally, the newly feminized football players are excited to get to perform in drag costumes anyway. And, of course, the episode ends with a Cinderella story: the district superintendent loved the show they ended up putting on, because of course he would.
In the following episode, the series took up the theme of support for left-wing gun control policies. Unsurprisingly, Evan, who is anti-gun, is seen as the “smart guy” while those who support the pro-gun position in the episode are portrayed as empty, stupid and thoughtless in their support of gun ownership.
This is just one in a series made by liberals with a focus on children that presents leftist ideas as the sensible position that signifies “progress” and “education” and conservative ideas as “evil,” outdated and stupid, so not surprisingly, critics love it.
