Ocasio-Cortez calls on Eric Adams to resign

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) urged New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign in a social media post on Wednesday, arguing that investigations, resignations and vacancies in his administration are “threatening” the government's ability to function.

“I don't know how Mayor Adams can continue to govern New York City. The proliferation of resignations and vacancies threatens to undermine the functioning of the government. Constant investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a competent administrator,” Ocasio-Cortez said. post on Wednesday on social platform X.

“For the good of the city, he should resign,” she added.

The Hill has reached out to the New York City mayor's office for comment.

Adams and his associates are facing several investigations.

Earlier this month, federal agents searched the homes of the New York City police commissioner and at least three of Adams' top lieutenants, The Hill reported.

The search came after the FBI searched Adams' home in February as part of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Brooklyn.

The New York Times reported that Adams has no plans to resign and maintains that neither he nor his aides have been formally accused of wrongdoing.

“We're constantly hiring new people,” the mayor told reporters at City Hall, according to The New York Times. “So I don't want to give the impression that all of a sudden, some of us are saying, 'I don't want to be in city government.'”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, R-N.Y., defended Adams on Wednesday morning.

“As far as I know, Mayor Adams is doing the best he can to stay focused on meeting the needs of New York City residents in one of the most difficult jobs in the world,” Jeffries said.

Federal agents declined to comment on the ongoing investigation related to the seizure, The Hill reported Tuesday.
